Indiana State Archives

Indianapolis, IN

The new Indiana State Archives Building is a 130,000-square-foot, five-story facility along the downtown Indianapolis Canal Walk. This purpose-built center will provide a permanent home for centuries of state records—including Indiana's original constitutions—which have been stored in a temporary warehouse for over two decades. To protect these invaluable artifacts, four of the five floors feature windowless storage areas equipped with museum-grade climate and UV controls, compact shelving, and advanced mechanical systems. The facility also balances preservation with public accessibility by incorporating a hovering glass "jewel box" entrance, a two-story reading room, a conservation lab, and limestone facades that harmonize with the surrounding campus.
