Citizens Energy - Deep Rock Tunnel

Indianapolis, IN

The DigIndy Tunnel System is a massive, 28-mile network of deep rock tunnels located 250 feet beneath Indianapolis. Built to modernize aging infrastructure, this project serves as a vast storage and transport facility for combined sewer overflows. It captures up to 250 million gallons of raw sewage and stormwater during heavy rains, preventing it from polluting local waterways like the White River. The system then routes this stored wastewater for proper treatment, effectively reducing sewage overflows into Marion County streams by up to 99%.
