Ameritech Headquarters
Miller-Eads was hired to provide emergency backup power for the main AT&T (formerly SBC-Ameritech) Central Office in Downtown Indianapolis. The system was necessary to ensure continuous telephone system power support to Indianapolis government offices, police and fire dispatches, and many major businesses. The location for the multi-ton power-generating diesel generators was on the thirteenth floor of Ameritech's headquarters in the heart of Downtown and no elevators or building lifts were available. Miller-Eads' solution was to coordinate with several contractors to shut down Meridian Street and lift the generators and other equipment using a 365-ton mobile crane. The project was completed flawlessly, and the generators are now set in place, connected and ready to go into use if necessary.
